First visit made a great impression. Excellent Porter, Brown and Dopple. Food was also outstanding and the service was quite good for a crowded Friday evening. I'll make this a regular stop on my way through Columbus. Only drawback is that they don't open until 5pm on Saturday

They have nine beers that they brew year round as well as a number of seasonal beers on tap. The food is excellent with a wide variety, from sandwiches and pastas to steaks and seafood. They also have a "Rock Filet" which they serve seasoned, but raw and you cut it up and cook it at the table on a 450 degree tulikivi soapstone. It is delicious. There entire menu and beer selection is online at www.elevatorbrewing.com. The building was built back in 1897 and has much of the original woodwork, stained glass and tile work, which is absolutely beautiful. I have also heard stories that it is haunted, but I didn't see any ghosts. Definite must while in Columbus.

Been a while since I've been here, and I agree that the beer has improved a bit. Necessity IPA wasn't bad, it had lots of bitterness at the finish. Procrastinator Dopplebock had a slightly fruity nose (plum/prune?) with kind of a dry finish. Vienna lager had lots of caramel in the nose and the flavor. Coffee Porter was all about the coffee (a bit much), looks like a nut brown ale. Dunkelweizen--banana--whoa! Chocolate Stout; I didn't catch the chocolate, but it was roasty and nice, nowever. Great lunch crowd present when I stopped by.

I'm glad previous reviewers say the beer has improved, because it must have been pretty lousy. The three beers I tasted were nice tasting, but very meek.
The best was the Dopplebock (that might be because I'm not so familiar with that brew).
The Pale Ale had very little in the way of hops. A slight amount of bittering hops was all I could find in it.
The Porter was nice, but more like a full bodied Brown Ale. The flavor was very mild for a Porter (milder than the Dopplebock).

The best brewery I've ever been to, period. Their Procastinator Dopplebock was excellent. The Coal Porter was great too. Interior was elegant to say the least. The bartenders were very friendly. Loved it.

I would have to say I really like this place! Big selection of beers, you WILL find one you like! Very good food with an even more interesting menu. The building alone is worth the trip! Really cool old tile mosaic in the front opens to an extremely relaxing bar area. We were even informed that there is a ghost haunting the building, spinning the old style bar stools etc..... Very cool, and worth a visit!

HIGHLY SUGGEST THE ROCK FILET. MOST BEERS HAVE AN ASTRINGENCY TO THEM. HEAD TO BARLEYS FOR THE BEER.

Great place, Very cool old building. Good beer selection. Tried the IPA, very good a little light on the hops but still good. Wife loved the Red and stout. Best brew pub in Columbus.

Visited 2/19/05--We had a waiter (kevin) who was terrible! The food and beer were great(especially the oatmeal stout and steak on soapstone) but haveing a lousy waiter ruined the whole experience. Will probably return if in the area and hope for a good server.

This is a very cool place, but similar to Maumee Bay in Toledo, they need to try a little harder with the beer. It isn't bad, but not really good either, just boring lame beer. Nothing jumps out and grabs you.

I agree with a previous reviewer...Big selection of mostly mundane beers. The Octoberfest tasted like brown fizzy water. We had high hopes for the food after reading a review in a local alternative paper. I had crab cakes..OK, but the sauce was heavily overspiced. MY wife had the fish and chips. Huge portion of mostly batter, with the fish very dry and tough. I've had better at a chain.
